The Sexual Assault Crisis Centre of Essex County (SACC) is a non-profit organization that has been providing support to children and adults who are survivors of sexual violence through crisis intervention, counselling, education and advocacy in the Windsor-Essex area since 1978. Support and information is provided to non-offending significant family members/caretaker or support persons. Sexual Assault Crisis Centre is a place where human rights are respected and where lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, non-binary, two spirit and queer people are all welcomed and supported.
OUR MISSION IS: The mission of the Sexual Assault Crisis Centre of Essex County is to provide support for all victims of sexual violence through crisis intervention, counselling, education and advocacy.
SACC STRIVES TO: - Provide crisis intervention and trauma-informed counselling that empowers victims of sexual violence; - Provide sexual assault and sexual abuse information in order to improve attitudes towards victims; - Ensure adequate community services are available for victims; and - Work towards the prevention of sexual violence in our society. Services are available in French and English and additional languages through Cultural interpreters.
MAIN SERVICES:
Crisis Intervention - Our service provides a twenty-four hour crisis line to survivors of sexual victimization. This service provides emotional support, problem solving strategies, information, and referrals when necessary. We provide information to those who are assisting survivors of sexual violence such as friends, family members, and other community organizations.
Counselling - Counselling is available to survivors of sexual victimization (sexual assault, sexual abuse and incest) of any age, who reside in the Windsor-Essex County area. Services to children who are victimized are co-ordinated with the Children’s Aid Society. Counselling support is also available for non-offending significant others. Satellite offices are available.
Services to Men and Boys - SACC is working together to support survivors of male sexual abuse. SACC has been selected as one of 45 agencies from across the province to deliver co-ordinated services to male survivors of sexual abuse through an initiative funded by Ministry of Attorney General. We have been providing services to male survivors since 1984.
Public Education - We participate in opportunities to educate the community on the realities of sexual violence, as well as its impact, and to implement initiatives that will reduce sexual violence in our community. Community educational resources are available for download here.
